In maart 1931 verhuisde het gezin naar een buurt verderop in de Ganghoferstraße 24 Frankfurt. Het is een chique kinderrijke buurt waar meer speelruimte is. De repressie tegen Joden neemt echter fors toe in Duitsland waarop het gezin in 1933 besluit het land te ontvluchten, eerst trokken ze nog in bij de moeder van Edith in Aken, Otto ging in Amsterdam op zoek naar woonruimte.
