Dit monument was gewijd aan de Heldensteden van de Sovjet-Unie. Vanaf 2022 is het gewijd aan de Russisch-Oekraïense Oorlog. De 'onofficiele' heldensteden vanaf dat jaar: Kharkiv, Kherson, Cherniniv, Mykolaev, Volnovakha, Okhtirka, Bucha, Irpin, Gostomel & Mariupol.
