Dit kasteel werd in 1918 ingericht als Casualty clearing station voor Canadezen en Australische soldaten. Op 28 mei 1940 werd het kasteel beschadigd door een hoog kaliber granaat. Tussen 1940 en 1944 is het kasteel bezet door het Duitse leger: Op 28 mei 1940: Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. Dit regiment vermoordde enkele tientallen Britse gevangenen bij "la plaine au bois" in Esquelbecq. 1940-1941: Otlazareth Tot 5 september 1944: Een kommandantur.
