Het bruggenhoofd van de 62ste Leger bevond zich hier tijdens de slag om Stalingrad. Het verlies van deze bruggehoofd zou het einde van Stalingrad betekenen. Tegenwoordig staat hier een propyleeën als eerbetoon aan de stad.
