Op het monument staat de tekst: 1940 - 1945 [i]HET WERK DES DAAGS VRAAGT OM EEN GAVE MENS. MEN MOET DE RAMP OM ZIJN HERSTEL VERGETEN. ZOALS DE ZWERM DER MEEUWEN OP UW HAVENS, ONAFWENDBAAR KEERT DE LEVENSDRIFT. TOCH STOELT UW WELVAART TEVENS 'T ONTIJDIG GRAF VAN DIE NU VAN GEEN OPBOUW WETEN.
