Dit monument werd opgericht ter nagedachtenis van de slachtoffers van het bloedbad van Vinkt en Meigem maar alsook ter nagedachtenis van slachtoffers van andere bloedbaden zoals Oradour-Sur-Glane, Lidice, Anscq, Putten, Bande, My Lai, Distomo, Ardea en Marzabotto.
