Het monument bij de voormalige Zeevaartschool te Delfzijl is een bronzen beeld van een golf waaruit een naakte vrouwenfiguur oprijst, die haar armen ten hemel heft. De tekst op de voorzijde luidt: 'TOEN DE ZEEVAARTSCHOOL 100 JAAR BESTOND, WERD DIT GEDENKTEKEN OPGERICHT VOOR DE LEERLINGEN EN OUD-LEERLINGEN, DIE IN DE JAREN 1940-1945 ZIJN GEBLEVEN. 1956.' De tekst op de achterzijde, een gedicht van M. Vasalis een pseudoniem voor mevrouw Margaretha Droogleever Fortuyn-Leenmans, luidt: 'LAAT HIER BOVEN GEMIS EN ROUW, BOVEN DE SPRINGGOLF VAN HERINNERINGEN, HET BEELD VERRIJZEN VAN DE TROUW. VAN HEN DIE IN DE GOLF VERGINGEN. VASALIS.'
