Dit voormalige vliegveld van de RAF heeft verschillende functies gehad. Vanaf deze basis vertrokken de eerste zweefvliegtuigen naar Pegasus Bridge in Normandië in de nacht voor D-day. Voor Operatie Market Garden werden hier de Hamilcar zweefvliegtuigen opgesleept.
