De Palace of Westminster is tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog op 14 verschillende momenten getroffen door Duitse bommen. De wederopbouw van het complex duurde tot in de jaren '50. De schade van de bombardementen zijn op verschillende plekken nog zichtbaar, bijvoorbeeld boven de ingang naar de House of Commons. In het paleis staan standbeelden voor Churchill, Clement Attlee en Margaret Thatcher.
