Harnack-Haus was tijdens het nazi-bewind in Duitsland een belangrijke wetenschappelijke propagandacentrum. Het complex raakte zwaar beschadigd in de slag om Berlijn in april-mei 1945 en is daarna door zowel de Sovjet als Amerikaanse bezettingsmachten in gebruik geweest.
