De voormalige Mauritskazerne werd tijdens de Duitse bezetting omgedoopt tot Kommodore Bonte Kaserne. De kazerne speelde ook een rol tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog en de Indonesische Onafhankelijkheidsoorlog.
